Re: [DTXpress] Re: Cymbal stuff

2000-10-12 by Mark T. Owen

You didn't say, but I assume you've tried adjusting the gain setting in the trigger set-up menu ? I haven't used the stock cymbal sounds for a while, as i found them too...crappy ? I crossfade a "ride" and a "bell" sound: the bell is set at a lower gain so that it responds only when I play close to the wingnut ( that says a lot !) Likewise on the crash: i crossfade two crash sounds: one with lower gain than the other. Check out the "phasey" crash sound you can get. It is similiar to the sound of a wildly swinging acoustic cymbal that has just been stunned by a killer blow from my stick! See the tips and tricks section for details... Now you try one.

Hi - don't know the answer to your problem, but I can least moan with
you. My new DTXpress is fine, but I am really dissapointed with the
VOLUME and RESPONSE on the ride. I have to really whack it,
especially on some of the drum setups, to get a decent volume. I
notice that when I ride closer to the 'bell' area, rather than
towards
the edge, I get a better response and volume. Like you, I have
considered doing something else in replacement to these cymbal pads.

Anyone else know what to do?

am
still quite satisfied with my purchase. The one problem that still
haunts me, though, is cymbal pad response. I'm constantly getting 2
triggers in a row when I only want one, due to vibrations--I think.
I
finally decided that maybe the pad is too light-weight (I don't play
very hard. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. I'm
seriously considering new cymbal pads, but would like to know if
anyone has had any luck with their settings or even hardware
configuration. Most of the time I end up substituting my middle tom
for a ride. What I'm looking for is great ride response at up-tempos
playing jazz (quarter=180bpm to 270bpm/ching a-ching a-ching ching
ching a-ching, etc.).
