Hi Steve, The RS-80 at a good price was always considered a viable upgrade from the 60. It was more stable, with an extra brace across the front and a little more elbow room on the right wing for the extra tom. The tubing was the same lightweight aluminum, with the standard diameter; the Xtreme rack was the only one in the Yamaha e-line that was substantively different. The hardware on the 60 and 80 was interchangeable, but the cymbal stands on the latter were the superior boom type, as on the RS-100, as opposed to the straight arms that came with the RS-60. Ed
