I'll see your 2 cents, and raise you a penny.

When I last drummed, I *think* it was a nylon strap, single pedal -
but I was so young and ignorant I didn't care. I can't remember the
brand. What's more I had no say in it as it wasn't my kit. When I got
back into it, I knew I wanted a double pedal but ... the choice ...
and the *prices*! Top of the line gear would have set me back more
than half what my DTXpressII cost - which just wasn't an option.

I decided that even a budget pedal would be able to outstrip my
limited capabilities for quite some time, and that all I needed was
solid construction (proper base plate, decent footplate, well screwed
together) as ... how shall I put this ... I displace more water than
I used to. I went for a budget pedal - a new Stagg PP1200 from an
eBay merchant - and I'm more than happy with it. At such time that my
feet are so damn fast that the pedals aren't good enough, I might
upgrade. I anticipate I will be in a retirement home first.

I realise that not really caring about my kick pedals marks me as a
drumming lightweight, but I don't really care. I'm having too much
fun.
