Hi Stewart, Sorry I didn't see your message until today. The Vis. hi hat is designed to play on a traditional stand, partly to provide a familiar look and feel. But, in truth, as long as you have some way to throw the device--ie, to pull the metal cord emanating from it that represents the full range of variability--you could atually hit any trigger that you wanted. If you bought the controller w/o the Vis. cymbals and w/o a stand, you could find a way to mount/deploy it with the pad of your choice, conceivably located anywhere on the rack. However, you'd still need a pedal to accept the hook at the cord's end, and a stationary shaft attached to the rack to clamp the electronics and enable the cord's movement. The Vis. cymbals opening and closing on a stand are really no more than window dressing-- lovely to behold but unnecessary for the ultimate effect. It just so happens that the old-fashioned atand w/pedal is the most convenient method. Ed
