Hrmph. Well, at the end of the second evening tweaking, it's not 
going swimmingly well with the Pintech SE-102.

I love the real estate, and arguably the surface is nicer to play on 
than the Yamaha TP-65S. Basic setup was easy. Sensitivity and 
tracking are (in the most general terms) fine.

But, but, but...

It has the most horrific hotspot, slap bang in the middle of the 
pad. If I get it responsive out near the edge, anything over a ghost 
note in the centre results in a 99% reading. And if I have the 
centre track reasonably, the sensitivity near the edge is so poor I 
actually end up with no more *usable* real estate than on the Yamaha 
pad which is 2" smaller. The Yamaha pad doesn't have this problem... 
it tracks *much* better over a wider area than the Pintech.

And the rim is indistinguishable from useless. This is not a *huge* 
blow, since I use cross-fade for snare/rimshot for general playing, 
but my main use for the rim is sidestick. Which is useless. Worse 
still, the rim chokes the snare! This latter can probably fixed by 
picking a different pad type (it's "misc 2" at the moment).

This was only a (relatively) inexpensive experiment, so I'm not 
exactly heartbroken, but it is disappointing.
