Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

To all:

I have completed the construction phase of my cable distribution 
system for my Phase III kit and I have posted pics of the bare rack 
and misc. photos of cable management system. Final pics will be 
posted in a few days.

Question: If you had $1000 budget, would you buy a computer based 
recording system or a digital hard disk/cdrom based system (ie, 
Fostex VF160cdr, Yamaha AW16g, etc.) This will be for recording drum, 
organ and live sound bites (screams, moans, etc.) for our annual 
Halloween graveyard display we put in our yard every year. (It also 
gives me a excuse to buy more toys.) I would like to tackle 5.1 
surround sound, so that I can make the sounds of ghosts, bats and 
other things appear to "move" around the yard with music oozzing in 
the background. I have a DVD-R burner on my PC, and have access to a 
lcd projector so that I can create a true DVD movie that can project 
images moving around the yard and I can place speakers at various 
points around the yard. The video side with mono sound I have been 
doing for awhile now, using Adobe Premier. I realize this is not the 
traditional "music" recording, but I figure sound and sound effects 
are just an extension of music. I am also going to define a spooky 
drum kit that I will be able to "play" live on Halloween. Since you 
guys and gals are a wealth of knowledge, I am hoping you can generous 
give me some advice. Thanks in advance.
