I have been one of the folks moaning about problems with the KP60 which shipped with the original DTXpress. Current circunstances have prohibited me from replacing it with something excellent- (kids in college, etc.). This weekend when the leads disintegrated on the piezzo for the third time I built a trigger pad based on a Remo tunable practice pad. (just like many of the DIY articles show.)I removed the rubber striking surface from the kick tower and installed the Remo. I am finding that my double triggers are gone, that I have much more dynamic range, and that the pad feels much more "natural" than the rubber block. The pad is, however, much louder than the original and maybe projects 1/2" or so closer to the beater than the original. If anyone is interested, I'll take some pictures of the setup and will let you know how it endures.
