Roland kicks work very well.  As far as connections go
pretty much EVERY pad is connected to your drum brain
via a 1/4"  instument cable.  Difference between
stereo and dual drum pads is were it can get
confusing.  Most roland pads are "dual" because most
roland brains work with dual inputs.  Most yamaha pads
are "stereo".  A single kick trigger or pad will work
in either type of input.  It's only when you're
triggering two different sounds from different zones
of a pad that you need to worry about these things. 
Just a little note though, all jacks except jack
"9/10" on the yamaha dtxpress are stereo jacks. 
"9/10"  is a dual jack and can accomodate rold dual
pads if you ever get one.   -Joe
