That's unfortunate...it seems to me this should be a "given" for any 
electronic drum kit.  Someone at Yamaha "dropped the ball" on this 
feature.

I'm new to MIDI so will have to do a little research.  I've "perused" 
Giles Hearne's site--it has great info on MIDI but just need to delve 
into MIDI info big time.
