Tom,

You need to go to the trigger edit mode (page 12 onwards in the
reference manual for the DTXpress I) and look at SelfRej, Rej and
SPCRej.  For missed triggers, it could be the SelfRej parameter - try
reducing it to zero.  If you then start getting double triggers,
increase it a little.  If you are missing triggers only while
simultaneously hitting other pads then the Rej paramter may be too
high, or the SPCRej.  Again, take them to zero and increase them if
you start getting other problems.  

To solve the repeat trigger on the bass I would think you need to
increase the SelfRej parameter.

You may also find some benefit in playing with GAIN and MVel.  In
particular, if GAIN is set too high then you may get double triggers.
