I really can't remember it well enough to recommend it to anyone, and the new round versions made by Yamaha and other companies really do have a distinct advantage IMO. The rest of what I wrote still stands, until somebody knocks it down. At this point, I've forgotten more than I've ever known about the earlier 80s models. The HH80 was reputed to be continuously variable from open to fully closed, but in practice, fine discrimination was pretty difficult, as with all MIDI high hats. The KP80 was an okay kick so far as I can recall--better than its little rubber sibling the KP60, which was unreliable, but, as I said, I wouldn't go out of my way to get one now. Frankly, I don't know whether the HH65 is much better than the HH80. It may have a few improved parts, but the principle is the same. The KP65 has had a checkered career; both the rubber and the foam behind it has been known to break down, though users can take precautionary action against early deterioration by placing a patch on the pad, using a wood beater, etc. In general, I'd stick with new hi hats over used ones, since high hats suffer over time. It would be hard to find a new HH80, anyway. Ed
