Well thanks to everyone that has replied. It looks likes duck tape, a cut up mouse pad, and paying attention to my playing habits and possible sensitivity adjustment will solve the problem. The patch from a mouse pad really sounds like a great idea, as I can already see some chafing on the kick rubber from the felt beater and I can see where it will dampen the bounce.
