Re: [DTXpress] Amplification Preferences

2004-10-03 by Creighton Higgins

hello F

I myself have been blessed with the use of an older Peavey Keyboard
amp- the KB-3 I believe. It seems to be more than sufficient for
playing in small spaces- I have not yet driven it into distortion. I
think you will find that most of us settle on keyboard amps as well as
PAs, since these devices are designed to provide fairly linear
response- in other words they do not unduly emphasize one part of the
audible range over another. Guitar amps tend to be hot in the middle
and high range in my opinion, and bass amps roll off in the higher
frequencies. Audio types will tell you to have plenty of power, not so
much for loudness, but so the amplifier can handle the brief
transients that occur at the beginning of a whack. This nearly
inaudible distortion destroys high frequency drivers (usually horns in
music amps) and is subtly irritating over time.
