Re: [DTXpress] Dedicated linux machine for recording

2004-08-26 by Stuart McConaghy

Smart idea, the only problems I see are the limited size (and price) of
larger CompactFlash cards. The largest I've seen holds 2GB, and costs
as much as a hard disk that holds 200 GB. Plus, in a typical recording
project, if you're separating everything, you can end up with 3, 4 GB
worth of audio files, thus needing a hard disk again for storage
purposes.
I do however love the idea of storing the OS on the CompactFlash, it'll
boot up a lot faster, and OS access will be quicker. And the AGNULA
project is looking very promising, let's see if Linux can end up being
what BeOS promised to be for recording artists.
