Dave Smith Instruments SYNTHESIZERS

I'm having an issue with my Evolver.  It seems that whenever I adjust 
the length of a midi clip, my Evolver transposes.  A simple check of 
the transpose knob and it's revealed that nothing has changed.  This 
is very strange, and annoying.  This does not happen with my other 
synths (of which I have various kinds) and never has been a problem.  

I am currently using my Evolver as a sound engine - I do not use the 
internal sequencer.  All sequencing is done with Sonar 2.1 and I use 
the Aardvark LX6 as my midi i/o for my computer.

This only seems to happen when I start/stop the Sonar sequencer, and 
when I resize a midi clip.  Do any of you have ANY IDEA what might be 
causing this?  My Evolver is #00237.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Must be something strange that Sonar is transmitting. I'm afraid I
can't really help more than that because I use Cubase - all I can say
is that it is unlikely to  be the Evolver at fault.

Does it transose by the same amount each time? And for different
patches? Are they your own or factory sounds?

If you have some means of monitoring the MIDI data that is hitting the
Evolver you might get the clues there. Can you tell Sonar to filter
certain types of data on transmission? Could you try another sequencer
program, even a demo version and see if the behaviour happens there?
What MIDI interface do you use? etc. etc... 8)

What do you mean by "resize the midi clip"?? Do you mean you grab the edge 
and stretch it out or push it in, it is supposed to push or pull the midi 
data together or apart in time? That is a wierd kind of function midi-wise. 
Perhaps your Sonar is action in some wierd way like you are resizing a 
timesliced midi clip and is laying in a transpose midi messages onto clips 
you "resize" You need to check the midi event list in your clip IN SONAR 
just before you resize and then after you resize, and look for a difference 
in either midi note number or a pitchbend message or a transpose message. 
It's obviously happening in Sonar not the Evolver since you report that the 
Evolver's transpose parameter does not change.

In Sonar, say you record a 2.5 messure midi clip (I use an external 
keyboard to play into Sonar, and I record the results).  Now if I 
wanna cut that down to a nice round 2 measure clip, I can slip edit 
the clip to 2 measures.  When doing this type of editing, the Evolver 
shifts pitch.  If I start/stop my material a couple of times, the 
Evolver will sort itself out.  The only rhyme or reason to this 
problem is resizing midi clips.  Unplugging and then replugging the 
unit will also get it sorted out.  I have rifled through the Midi Rec 
function in the Evolver and nothing seems to work there, either.  

The strange thing is that this DOESN'T happen with my other synths.  
I use a Midi thru box with 4 outputs so there isn't a daisychaining 
problem here.  

Also, is there a way to PREVENT the sequencer from playing?  Like I 
said, I am using this as a sound source, and I sequence it 
externally.  When I hit play in Sonar, the Evolver Sequencer will 
turn on.  Is there any way to lock it off?
