Well, there isn't any going back now, his machine is great. I
bought it as part of re-vamping my studio from fully computer to
computer controlling hardware. I love this thing. I've mostly been
using a freeware programme called BUZZ to make electronic music,
which is buggy and sucks in some ways but some of the instruments
and effects in BUZZ are really great. I've owned a few analogues
through the years, but BUZZ synths generally have some wierdness and
extreme properties to them that most plain jane synths don't have.
I must say that the Evolver possesses some of the crazy
wierdness I've come to like in synthesizer programming that you
can't get with a lot of standard analogue synths (like junos, MKS-
70, even a MINIMOOG really (the MM is _NOT_ one of my fav synths for
sure)...). I really appreciate all the Fvcked up signal processing
I can do with it as well as all the sounds it makes. The RANGE of
noises I can get out of this thing is just SICK. Well worth the
dough, even given my tight budget. It's intuitive to use also, I
have no complaints with the UI, it works and it works FAST (but then
I learned synthesis several years ago on a Korg Poly-800, which has
an up and a down button to adjust one parameter at a time)

Indeed, the Evolver is full of strange, wonderful quirkiness!! I've
used some of those buzz instruments and effects as well... so I know
what you're talking about. ;) You can use Buzz effects in fruity
loops also. You know, not to tempt you with something else you
don't need, but you might REALLY like Reaktor 4. The included
instruments are a real step up from 3's and it gives inspiration to
understand and realize it's full power.

Well, I can't afford any new software. I just bought my evolver
along with an MKS-70 and an Oberheim Expander and Sibelius (I wanted
to use actual music notation, instead of Buzz's tracker-like
interface, and real synthesizers instead of software). So after
laying down a wad of dough, I'm now good to go for awhile. What
next? Maybe I'll buy a VCS3 or a synthi, or barring that, perhaps
I'll just pay the rent and eat my pasta for awhile :-).
