casio fz10m horner disk drive trouble

casio fz10m horner disk drive trouble

2010-08-08 by charles c

hi i've had a casio fz10m for a half a year now
its disk drive was not as responsive as other drives .
i took the drive out of the machine for close inspection
but when i reinstalled the drive , it failed to read any of the original disks i had for it .

now don't get me wrong , i had this thing apart a few times and this never hapened , i clean and maintanence all my equipment,
so its not a plunder or defective due to my carelessness.

what do we think is wrong ???

anybody had this happen to them ?

anybody know about ther disk drives in the casio fz10m

because now ,

the disk drive acts normal ,
reads any disk made in itself ,
just won't read other disks prior to the cleaning

what did i do?
, misallign the heads ,
,unbalenece write stepping?

charles

When it comes to floppy disk drives, you have to be carefull to make
sure they don't get misaligned. Some years ago I had a hard time
manually realigning a disk drive I took apart, you usualy need
special equipment for that task...

This (commercial) page might be helpfull to you, at least when it
comes to telling you the basics about floppy disk drive alignment...

sound like you miss alligned the heads to before so it wont read disks produced on the michine prior to it being surviced

and to get them to align properly you need a special machine

but as seeing it still works you can send me your disks and i can save them to pc as fzdumps and email you the files and send back the disks so you can resave them

you might of actualy realigned the heads as if they were giving errors before you serviced it that

might be the reason why the disks dont read know becuase they are full of errors

Re: [CZsynth] casio fz10m horner disk drive trouble

2010-08-08 by charlie midi gfa

i thought of this too (fixing it,bypassing other previous old write errors)
, but i am working inside such a tight confinement

the fz would give errors alot ....
like if i had made more than four or five just simple
waveforms..not samples.... and tryied saving to disk ,it would just not
write to disk correctily

and he waveforms are small in memory right?
compared to sample data

or

then its kinda malform its running state
not allow voices to be loaded from other disks ,when trying to load
mulitple voice from multiple voice disks
 or
if it did succesfully load after reporting a couple bad disk reads,
then saving all the data unto another disk was fouled too...
seemed to remain in whatever state the previous disk had rendered it into

so onto my main point
now everything ok , but the original casio disks don't read ,
i've went beyond a restore and fix point to
simplily fix new unknown state

i need to take a small step backwards to
fix and reset factory like state

that site was a land mark
it explained the problems disk drive posses when faulty and even shone
light on how the data is stored on disk

thanks
charles
