This is the first time I've said this to a GUY, but "NICE RACK"! ;)

I'd love to hear listmembers music done entirely on Casio CZ or VZ gear, anyone have anything they'd like to promote?

I miss my CZ1. I couldn't justify the space it was taking up in my small setup. Now all I've got is the CZ101 and I've been thinking about rackmounting it. Has anyone here done this successfully?

I can't imagine anyone having more than one VZ in a rack?

Now if I could just get that twangy organic string pluck sound I get
from the CZ series, i would be in heaven with all of that real time
control. VZ8M is my favorite as it actually can do the pitch bend
release. Can't seem to get that on the VZ-1 or VZ10M.

I made a track just on my VZ, with no effects. it's not that great though,
and it only uses 4 parts and 8 voices because I ran out of ideas..

if anyone really really wants to hear it I'll upload it somewhere but it's
nothing great.

shouldn't be too hard, but it really depends on how you go about it. I
imagine you'd want to keep the original front panel intact, right?

If you were careful about the design you could even get rid of the wall
wart...

Sure, lets hear it... Though you can hardly consider that "promotion", can you? :)

Nah. CZ-101s are certainly not expensive. I don't care how it's done, though it should look nice. I am much more concerned with functionality than preserving the front panel. I've got one with a problematic keyboard which would be the perfect victim!

If you were careful about the design you could even get rid of the wall
wart...

Well, I'd prefer to follow someone else's plans. Anyone have any ideas?

I uploaded it here: http://www.geocities.com/formation_shaped/vz/y-q.mp3

Well I was thinking you'd want to keep the front panel intact so you
wouldn't have to rework everything. Today I saw a website of a guy who
rackmounted an Atari 2600. It's here:
http://www.manipulate.net/skan/noizspike.html

Seems to me you'd have to do something like that, though probably in a
2-space rack unit to accomodate the panel. I guess it's a bit more
complicated than it first seems as you have to install new connectors, etc.
I guess if you wanted to go the quick and dirty route you could take the
bottom of the original case, with the circuit board attatched
(well...assuming it's attatched to the bottom of the case- I don't have a
CZ-101 so I don't know) and epoxy it to the bottom of the rack box.

This probably isn't the best idea but you could glue a wall wart inside the
rack case and have an extention cord coming out the back :)

Here are a few pics of some CZ synths I rescued.
For the CZ-101, I just wanted a black box. Since
all of the parameters can be accessed from a MIDI
controller. Gone is the keyboard, switches, LED's.
The keyboard circuit board was removed, as was the
LED driver board and switch matrix board. All that
is needed is the MIDI in/out, volume, line out,
power switch, power jack, and LCD display. The only
extra switches would be bank select for the 4 bank
memory cartrige attached to the external cart port.
A backup battery of 3 volts was added to the on-board
battery terminals. All I need now is a suitable box to
put it in. I may even mount a rechargeable gel-cell,
if there is room, for the ultimate in portability.

There are also some pics of a CZ-1 I am thinking about
making a 2 space rack mount out of. Same things removed,
keyboard, switches, LED's, and the swithh matrix, LED
driver. The CZ-1 will require a few parameters to be
accessed. I was thinking of using 12 position rotary
switches in combination with a momentary pushbutton,
to access the different menus.

Both synths work great, but are not completed yet.
A CZ-50.5 for the black box? (Half a 101)
A CZ-10M for the racked CZ-1?

i've given thought, over the last few years, about racking a CZ-synth....

one option is to just have a box with a display, power switch and a
cartridge slot on the front, audio and MIDI on the back.

sounds come in on the card, and everything else can be done via MIDI.

maybe someone can design a CZ emulator for the chameleon.... it'd be great
if it was just like the real thing, but with more usable performance MIDI
and some LFOs, etc...
