Im using my CZ1 as masterkeyboard. Some people say bad things about the cz: Of course, they have a rather simple an rubby keyboard which is just too bad for a professional pianist, but I m happy with it.
The cz100 is not velocity sentsitive, but If this doesnt bother you - use it!!! And dont forget to send a "local off" midimessage when your using a sequenzer, otherwise you wont be able to use the cz`s keyboard independently from the cz`s internal synthesizer.

It is my first experience with midi and dont understand what you tell me ... i need very very basic explanation but if you bored or have not enought time for this question... I understand to you. In any case, ¿who send a "local off" midimessage? ¿pc or Cz? by the way, my name is Daniel too. thanks

Ok Daniel, Here comes some basic stuff about midi. I´m using my midi setup as an example. My system consists of a PC with soundcard and midiinterface which can also be included in the soundcard. My CZ is connected as following: Cz midi out ---- to PC midi in Cz midi in ------to Pc midi out Cz midi through---to midi in of other synthesizers (that might be the point, the cz1000 has no midi through , so you need a second midi out port on your PC if you want to play other external synthesizers with your Cz`s keyboard.) Ok your hardware should be ok now. Lets have a look at the software: I´m using Cakewalk Sonar as a Sequenzer. The software serves not only for recording midi data, it takes control over your hardware(masterkeybord and synthesizers), too. Lets suppose you want to play a software synthesizer (piece of software that makes sounds) with your cz`s keyboard. Every track in the sequenzer has an input and an output. As input, you choose the port(your midi interface) and the midi channel, your cz is connected to.(example, cz is sending on channel 1 an is connected to "mpu 401external midi": Input channel 1, port:mpu 401 external midi) Got it??? The output of the track has to be the input of the software synthie. If you now hit a key on your Cz you will her two sounds, one generated by the softsynth and one by the cz itself. And thats the point why you need to send a local off message. Local off disconnects the Keyboard part inside your CZ from the Synthesizer part. That means the keyboard is able to send its data directly to your pc without going over the cz synthesizer. Every goog Sequenzer software can do that for you automatically- read your operation manual for details.(The PC has to send the local off message) If you decide to use some cz sounds, simply choose the cz`s input midi channel in the sequenzers output. So you can switch between several synths and play them all over the same keyboard. I hope that brought you a bit ahead, Im not very good in explaining such things. Hi Daniel, >Thanks Daniel, now i know its posible ... but how? >It is my first experience with midi and dont understand what you tell >me ... i need very very basic explanation but if you bored or have >not enought time for this question... I understand to you. >In any case, \ufffdwho send a "local off" midimessage? \ufffdpc or Cz? if you just want to play the soundblaster sound with your CZ-1000, plug an appropriate cable into MIDI OUT of the CZ and into MIDI IN of one of the sound cards. I assume you have a sequencer program that records and plays back midi and/or audio? Popular sequencers would be Logic (alas, not on PC anymore), Cubase, Cakewalk, Sek'd Samplitude (those are commercial, professional programs), or Jazz (freeware and almost professional). If you want the sequencer to play the CZ, you need another cable: MIDI OUT of the soundcard to MIDI IN of the CZ. As the CZ cannot send the local off message, it has to be sent from the PC, that is the sequencer. Then the CZ sound is independent from the keyboard. If you want to know more about MIDI, there are plenty of sites on the web: e.g. http://crystal.apana.org.au/ghansper/midi_introduction/contents.html http://www.midi.org/ (official site) http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/tech/midispec.htm Just google "midi specification". If you want to know more about the CZ midi implementation, there is the CZSYSEX.ZIP in our file section, folder CZ-Docs. It contains the "Guidebook for midi" by Casio. Hellmuth
