The lotharek guy has been a little rude to me some times but it hasn't stopped me ordering his products. Each product has turned up when he said it would and they really work-that's all I really care about.

As far as I am aware this is the only option for a modern replacement rather than replacing floppy with floppy. The Chinese drives probably won't work in an fz1 for the same reason that a normal pc floppy drive won't work- pin layout is different, possibly different speeds and logic states. Lotharek has already created the custom file needed to tell his floppy emulator what settings are needed to emulate an fz1 floppy drive. Chinese usb drives would almost certainly require modding to the drives themselves and that may not be possible at all.

I don't think he is ignorant - he just makes and sells those products. Inventors, headquarters and forum are here:

And here:

Number of supported musical instruments is growing and there's good support from their side.

Of course there are more products like this, just use Google. Here is some Estonian product:

There are even cheaper options of Chinese origin, but I personally would avoid them as I don't trust cheap Chinese crap. For example Gotek:

I'm sure there will be more and more similar products as floppy disks will become not only out of fashion, but out of use and out of production. Old FDD would have problems and many users of older instruments would need to change them for modern electronic solution without complex mechanics and moving parts...
