Thanks for the suggestions, everybody. That seems like a crazy waste to keep all of those batteries in there just to hold the sounds! Especially with the CZ1000, which takes D cell. And since mine was bought without a battery compartment door...

There is no internal battery. You have to keep batteries in the battery
compartment to hold the patches. It's a stupid design.
I modded my cz101 to have a single 9v instead of 6 C batteries just to hold
the patches, since I never run it off batteries anyway.
