The CZ-101 has a memory back-up capacitor in place of a battery. It has a very high capacitance (millifarads or greater). It stores enough charge to serve as a battery for a while for the patch memory. The caps fail after a while, though. I had to replace the cap in mine after I got it. Now it holds memory fine with no batteries or power source connected.

time for me to move it to the jam room. I only needed a battery box to
install the 4 AA mod I found on this website, and only a few of the
patches I installed were good, so I pulled the plug. Over a half hour
later I plugged it back in and my patches where intact. I'm wondering
if someone could have upgraded the capacitor or installed and internal
battery backup. Has anyone heard of this? Or was it just an anomoly?
