Thanks for everyone's help. I've played with the delay settings in
Midiquest; still getting errors (midi error or buffer full error). 
Maybe the data is bad.  It also looks like I have to tell the VZ to
accept the dump?  Should I be able to change a parameter in Midiquest
and have the VZ respond?
