Not dumb at all!! Very good question.  I just tried that, and no affect what
so ever.  The LCD doesn't work at all, not even garbage characters.  All I
can do with it is turn it on, and all it does is emit different low level
tones each time I reset it.  Thanks for the tip, but I think it's seriously
toasted.

Dumb question but did you try resetting it (with a paper clip or
toothpick) by pressing the reinitialize button located on the
underside of the CZ1000?
