Hi! I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Simon Beck. I'm a 41-year-old semi-pro multi- instrumentalist living in London, England, and I've been using Casio instruments since 1981. My first Casio was a CT-202 bought direct from Casio UK, which I played in various bands until 1991, when I donated it to the musical instrument collection of the Horniman Museum in south London. I added a new CZ-101 to my stack in 1986, and in 1989 I bought a second-hand CPS-101 electronic piano to replace a stolen Hohner Pianet T. In 1990 I bought a DH-1 Digital Horn which is currently awaiting the ubiquitous capacitor replacement. My keyboard setup throughout the 1990s comprised the CPS-101 MIDI'd to the CZ-101 and a Yamaha EMT-10 sampled piano/strings module. About 3 years ago I tried out the CZ-101 after a couple of years' non-use and found that its circuitry was apparently terminally damaged - all the LEDs flashed, and no sound was produced. I found a second-hand CZ- 1 on www.loot.com for 75 pounds - about $100 - and literally threw out the old CZ-101 (sorry to anyone who thinks they could have rescued it!). As well as keyboards, I also play bass guitar, chromatic harmonica, Theremin, rudimentary Telecaster strumming, double-bass, recorder, percussion and a bit of finger-picking acoustic guitar. My main styles of music are blues, jazz, soul and rock, but I've played just about every style of music over the years apart from classical. I'd love to be able to, but being self-taught I can't read music! Some of you may already know me as the "virtual curator' of Simon's Hall of Electric Pianos - www.hallofelectricpianos.com and as the editor of Vintage Keys E-Zine: http://vintagekeys.tripod.com, and even though I don't own any vintage keyboards I am an enthusiast of pre-digital (and particularly pre-MIDI) gear. I look forward to some interesting discussions! Simon Beck London, UK
