Boss VF-1 Effect Processor

Just in case this is useful info for someone, I had some problems updating VF-1 firmware (from 1.00 to 1.13)on Win 7 64-bit using the UpdSMF utility (suggested by Roland) with an E-Mu Xmidi1x1 Tab cable. Kept getting "MIDI format err" & checksum errors all over the place.
 
The solution was a free utility called "Send SX" from Bome Software. Just load up the .mid files one at a time and eventually you're good to go. Worked for me anyway.

Something else I figured out how to do with the E-Mu cable was turn my iPad into a patch changer using an app called "Midi Tool Box." It's not free, but it works. You have to pay an extra $2 to unlock the Program Change function, but this gives you a big keypad & you just tap the numbers to change your presets.

I have a pair of VF-1's & was looking for an easy way to control both. An FS-6 footswitch for one and the iPad for the other does the trick.
