Roland JP-8000 vs. the Alesis ION

Roland JP-8000 vs. the Alesis ION

2003-06-06 by spacebird8

hello everyone. well, it seems by reading some of your posts that the
ion hasn't been released. I mean, I went to two major muisic stores
guitar center and sam ash, and neither of them had one on display ,
and only one of a few salesman knew what i was taking about when i
mentioned the ION, but I've seen it ready for sale on MANy websites
(actually i havent clicked on the link which actually buys the
board,so those would tell me- item not available-.
Anyhow, I have a Roland JP-8000, and I love this board, mainly
becasue my favorite band The Disco Biscuits uses one, and when
deciding which board to buy, I said screw it, I know just about
everything this board is about, nothing will suprise me that much,
but I really want it, so I bought one. Now, I;m ready to move on. the
JP is like 6 years old! I mean I would love to keep it and get a more
modern synth, but i can't afford that really. I'm really praying
that the distorion on the ION will kick butt, becasue I really grown
to liek distortion leads like the ones on the Novation K station and
MS2000(gates Of hell!! patch..).
I can always add PC efefcts, but I know onboard is probobly better
than my cool edit pro effects. the vocoder will be fun , and I can;t
wait to plug my guitar into the IOn.( if i get one)
I will finally make my decision when i get to play a display one at
a store, but do you think JP-8000 for ION is a good idea?
Does anyone have audio demos from ION besides sonic states.
? from the sonic state demo, I heard nothing I was anticipating. it
sounded like patches cut off by the filter and throbbing LFOs, no
leads or pads or just one-key-touch cool patches.
YEa, so I;m just waiting 'till i can test one , and I'll probobly buy
it! NO SYNTH i have ever playes has a better interface than the
Roland JP-8000 though becasue- you can easily tweak bith the filter;s
res and cut at same time( i liek this), and the modulation lever is
genus because, well, for instance, by using the left side of the JP,
I can play a changing melody , morph in or out of LFOs WHILE easily
changing the depth and speed of LFO, bend pitch and I can also use
the assignable ribbon. the left side of the JP should be copied by
ALL synths.....

here's an audio sample of the Alesis ION that you may not have heard
yet..since I lost the web page i got it from, I'll just upload it to
my iuma.com page

here--> http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/galiwaves/

if not works, try galiwaves.iuma.com or www.galiwaves.iuma.com

enjoy.
hoping for some feedback//

PS-- if you download the mp3, it will sound MUCH better that the
crappy stream version..

Ion will be out in most stores around July.

ION vs JP8000/Ms2000/Nordlead

has someone ask on keyboardmag(http://www.keyboardonline.com) forum
and Dave Bryce said
Ion will kick the teeth out of JP8000 and MS2000.
and why because it has three Oscillators and two filters(with 18
types).
He also prefer Ion over Nordlead.
