My Andromeda decided to go brain-dead on me (i.e., failing to boot on power-up). On power-up, it'll get part way through the boot sequence, and then it locks up.
I've tried all of the various soft-key resets listed in the TROUBLESHOOTING section of the REFERENCE MANUAL...to no avail. I even tried to reload the OS...again, to no avail--it'll prompt me to send the OS, it'll read the first part of the packet and properly note the number of blocks to expect, but it will not go any further (i.e., not actually read the blocks or prompt to burn the new OS).
I've run the panel debug (soft-key 2 startup) and found a "passive ribbon test" failure. No other errors detected. However, the system eventually locked-up on me while testing.
I've also noted that the machine needs to be switched off for a while, else, when soft-key booting, the system seems to hang and not prompt to confirm whatever soft-key mode I have selected. I would not think that any ribbon controller problem would cause this behaviour. It seems logically to be more likely an OS and/or memory and/or processor problem. Of course, I am not a tech and could be way off base here.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Cheers.
