2. I also wrote about shaky tuning- is that just endemic to the machine?

Yes, VCF,

Sounds like you could use a VCA calibration (check the Tune page,
select VCA, and let it autotune after it's done with that).
The output VCAs are on the Filter chip, so the Filter optimizer
setting effects them as well. Working on a Minimoog sound, the Fast
setting was actually too fast...
