Alesis Andromeda A6

The manual says routing into voice 15 or 16 that all the keyboard,
filter, mods etc are bypassed for a clean signal in.  This does not
seem to be working on my Andromeda as I must hold a key to heard the
incoming signal.  What am I doing wrong?   What I would like is to
have a clean drum beat coming in while I noodle on the A6.
