I see from a note I read somewhere that CAN bus wants a nice round number for it's baud rate, and only allows 1.5% error... which means using a 12M or 16M XTAL and dividing down. Sadly I want to run on 3V3 and even 12MHz is outside the safe operating curve at this voltage. Can anyone tell me if I can work happily on a CAN bus with an 8MHz XTAL please? David

Hello, I saw the post about the new avr studio release and, as it can be uised as IDE for winavr could not resist. Everything seems fine, but when, after compiling, I upload the code to the ATTiny26 on the STK500 with "Use current simulator flash memory", the upload takes a fraction of a second: not good (and it doesn't work...). There is also no error message of any kind. When uploading the generated hex file with "Input Hex file", it functions properly. Any ideas ? Geert

Let Atmel know! You can go to the AVR Studio 4 forum in
Avrfreaks as it is monitored by the dev. team (Devil's team ?? :-P)
or you can send Atmel a note directly.

You can use avr@atmel.com. Response is usually pretty slow though. D ----- Original Message -----

Did you upgrade the dev board? I installed the upgrade and had no problem although the software is a bit more "clunky" as far as program response. D ----- Original Message -----

Dennis, Yes I did. The board works ok because I can upload to the stk500 when selecting the hex file manually. Dennis wrote:

I don't know if it was available in the older avr studio versions, but is there a possibility to have line numbers displayed in the editor window? When compiling a C program, I was used in programmers notepad to select the error and the editor jumped to the line containing the error. Now the avr studio displays the error together with the line number, but I don't know how to go to that line. Geert

I was wondering how the new version of AVRStudio worked with the STK500. I downloaded it yesterday and installed it last night but haven't tried it yet with the STK500. Any problems? Zack

I used studio 4.12 with an old STK500 (I didn't want to upgrade because I was importing old makefiles using AvrDude) and it seemed to work ok. The only problem is the nasty dialog box saying it might not work without upgrading. ----------- Larry Barello www.barello.net | -----Original Message----- | From: AVR-Chat@yahoogroups.com [mailto:AVR-Chat@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf | Of Zack Widup | Sent: Thursday, October 06, 2005 5:01 AM | To: AVR-Chat@yahoogroups.com | Subject: Re: [AVR-Chat] New AVR Studio | | | I was wondering how the new version of AVRStudio worked with the STK500. | I downloaded it yesterday and installed it last night but haven't tried it | yet with the STK500. | | Any problems? | | Zack

Thanks Larry. I have a few chips to program and I'll try it out later today. Zack

You'll have to update the STK500 firmware which wouldn't work for me initially. After fiddling around for half an hour I unchecked the STK500 plugin then rechecked it. After that it installed ok using the manual update procedure detailed in the STK500 help file and works fine for me: STK500 Manual Firmware Upgrade The current version of AVR Studio will automatically detect any old STK500 firmware version and request the user to upgrade the firmware. If for some reason the upgrade fails (the serial cable is detached during upgrade, the power goes out, ...) the next time the AVR Studio tries to connect to the STK500, the board will not be detected and the automatic upgrade procedure will not start. Following is a procedure on how to manually upgrade a STK500 board. This procedure should work in all cases: Power off the STK500 Push the 'PROGRAM' button (located near the AT45D021 dataflash) while powering up the STK500 Start AVR Studio and make sure there is a serial connection between the PC and the STK500 DSUB9 marked 'RS232 CTRL' Start the program 'Avr Prog' located in the AVR Studio 'Tools' menu Locate the firmware upgrade hex-file 'stk500.ebn' by pushing the 'Browse'-button in the 'Avr Prog Hex File'-window. The path for the 'stk500.ebn' for a normal AVR Studio installation is "C:\Program Files\Atmel\AVR Tools\STK500". Push the 'Program'-button in the 'Avr Prog Flash'-window. A progress bar will now appear while showing additional information messages. Wait until the verify operation is finished. Close the 'Avr Prog' program Power off and on the STK500 PCB. The STK500 is now ready to be used with the new firmware. -- Ralph Hilton http://www.ralphhilton.org C-Meter: http://www.cmeter.org FZAOINT http://www.fzaoint.net

Roy, That is what I tried to do, but nothing moves. I assume this will only work when eidting an assembler program and not a C program. At this moment, I would already be happy with the line numbers displayed. Impossible to debug otherwise. Geert Roy E. Burrage wrote:
