Red Lion or Yamitaki Honeywell comes to mind.  Simple
all in one units that have either analog or relay
outputs for heat treat furnaces.  As that's one of
the few things I know of that requires 500C.  You
need the controller and a servo gas valve.  As to the
homebrew stuff, don't.  Things going wrong in a
furnace
make for nasty lawsuits.  I've seen what's left of
a 12 inch door after something goes wrong with the
gas mixture after it took a guys head off.  Yes he
died.
