Mega128 board suggestions?

Mega128 board suggestions?

2005-04-05 by arhodes19044

Hello, I am new to the list here. I am considering moving up from a
Basic-x system. It is nice, but more limited than I would like.

I have seen the atmel 128 (or even better for me, the 1281. I need
more than 24 i/o lines and I would like at least 3 external
interrupts so I do not have to arbitrate them over a single
interrupt (some are higher priority).

I _do_ like the simplicity of the BaxicX -24 boards. Just supply
power and it is ready to program. NO other stuff (memory/cyrstals,
etc).

Does anyone know of a source of a complete, ready-to program and
interface board for the mega 120 or 1281? Small size is a plus. A
DIP package is a plus as well. Low cost is really important. US-
based sources would be nice to avoid international shipping and poor
dollar exchange rates.

I have seen some nice ones, but many of the I/O pins are taken up by
other headers (dallas, etc). I think I would rather keep as many
I/O pins free as reasonably possible.

Thanks in advance!

Tony

James,

Thank you for pointing me in this direction. I did some Googling
and found the Mavric-II just before your answer appeared. It looks
like it was built just for me!!

I think I will get one.

Is there a reasonably useful windows-based C compiler for little or
no cost? I am rusty with C but I much prefer it to basic!

Are all the programmers the same, or do some give extra
functionality and are worth the extra cost? WHat is a reasonably
good, low cost one?

As you can see, this has to be done on a real budget!!!!

-Tony

Tony,

Take a look at the MAVRIC-II boards from bdmicro.
(http://www.bdmicro.com/). One of these
boards and the AVRISP (or JTAG interface to allow debuggin) and you
would be ready to go.

good luck,

Tony,

You may also consider the AVRcard core module
http://www.avrcard.com/products/avrcard.htm

Also, you find there a baseboard for a quick start, the AVR Playground.

I do an M128 based controller board as a base for other peripheral add-on boards. Perhaps you'd like to take a look at the Web site:
Good luck,
Roger.

Wow, that AVRcard is very nice too! Requires international shipping,
but that probably would not be too expensive.

Yes, WINAVR. Is a self-contained windows port of GCC for the AVR. You
can find it
at http://winavr.sourceforge.net/.

I personally have used the AVRISP from Atmel. It is $29 from Digikey
and works well. There is a member
of this group who sells a JTAG ICE interface which is not much more
expensive then the AVRISP and would
provide debugging ability. (http://www.ecrostech.com/) But at first, I
would say that the AVRISP is all you really
need. It works with Avrdude which is the open source programmer which
comes with WINAVR.

AVRISP $29.00 + Mavric II $99 (Assembled and Tested) has you into a working
AVR environment for about $130 bucks.

The Crumb128 is a small board for a low price. It has a STK500
compatible bootloader preinstalled, so you only need a serial cable to
program it!

Anyone used a chip45 product?

Would be nice if there were a US distributor, or a group purchase, since the
shipping to the US is high for a small qty.
