Microsoft has indicated in the past that a license always includes the right to downgrade to a previous version. Have you tried turning off UAC? Given what UAC does and the fact that studio is a collection of co-operating programs I can see UAC being a real problem. Even if it didn't work you might save someone else some trouble by noting that. Unfortunately someone has to be the first to run into problems.
