The first thing you need is AVR Studio installed in your computer which has now an interface to Winavr (GCC). Look at the Examples folder in Winavr and you will find a LCD example there. Also Codevision C compiler has a wizard to setup a LCD, and don't forget to get yourself a copy of the LCD data sheet to understand the way to interface and talk to it.
