  Since Lotus 1-2-3 was essentially a ripoff (knockoff, if you prefer
more polite terminology) of VisiCalc, I think the original statement
holds.

  He was mistaken regarding typewriters, however.  At that time, while
IBM made what may well have arguably been the best typewriters
available, tyhere were numerous other typewriter manufacturers in the
business,m all doing goo dvolumes (Brother, Royal, Smith Corona, to name
but a few that come to mind).
