RE: [AVR-Chat] Re: Freaks Attacked

In order to take any action you need to have access to the log files of
at least the web servers and maybe routers/firewalls. Without them
nothing is possible. Even with these if you can find the right
information it will probably only lead you to the next victim in the
chain where you again would need to have access to the logs etc. it is a
process that could take some time. Chances are that even if the trail
leads to a person's PC that person may themselves be a victim.

I read the AVRfreaks.org website often and often post answers to
question messages (under a different name). I too am saddened to see
its operation disrupted.

Perhaps some of the more advanced technical web experts can track down
the parties responsible for this attack so that they may be visited in
person and persuaded to cease and desist from all future activity of
this nature. I don't want to sound like a gangster. A better metaphor
would be an FCC (the government oversight agency for broadcasting in the
USA) visit to someone making pirate broadcasts on commercial frequencies
from their home. They confiscate their equipment and explain the legal
consequences of further violations.

If this attack on our community website is the work of juvenile
prankster, then the AVRfreaks should express our outrage to whoever has
responsibility for this person's actions. If a student is responsible,
e-mails from the AVR community all over the world calling for their
expulsion should be sent to the school that they attend. A
hacker-for-hire should be sued for damages in the civil court of the
country of the hack's origin by an AVRfreak member who is a citizen of
that country.

We do have options and we don't have to take this kind of nonsense
from these jerks.
