I thought the read of the ASSR register was supposed to return me ones in the low three bits, if those updates were not yet complete. It said that I could write all three at once, but then I had to loop waiting for the three bits in the ASSR to zero, before proceeding. It does int ONCE though, so obviously something's hosed.
