I am fully aware of the many options available to me for an Atmel 
programmer and driver program. Many of the hardware designs rely on a 
special driver program as well e.g. PonyProg and AVRSP. Personally I 
prefer a solution is that compatible with Atmel. I have provided input 
to the AVRDude program so that they can improve it. It is up to them 
whether they decide to implement any of these requirements. They asked 
for feedback and this is mine independent of whether I like or dislike 
this program.

On the AVRDude site, one of the features of latest release  (4.4.0) is 
that they now have a native Windows version independent of Cygwin. This 
is a good thing. However they didn't provide a Windows binary for 
download. Perhaps this was just a simply slip up and no-one has pointed 
it out before. There are Windows binaries for versions prior to 4.4.0.
