AVR-Chat

I am sure I never needed a password to sign up for the newsgroup

is there a "general purpose" one we could all use.

otherwise I might make one up

Not necessarily. It is possible to sign up for the Yahoo newsgroups without
having a Yahoo ID (by just sending the appropriate subscribe email).

However, if you want to use any of th web features (like files, photos,
database) then you have to have a Yahoo ID.
