Great Link, Jeff! And broken link, admin!

2006-02-04 by instrujunkie

I bookmarked http://www.deepsonic.ch
yesterday. I think the fs1r forum pointed me there. Lots of great
stuff. One chapter "acid without TB303"...:-D I even like his music.
Though the An1x impresses me more in comparison with other instruments
than with itself. It can be so much more "in the face" than anything
else except SequentialCircuits hardware.
I really thought of getting the jp8080 having the
longer feature list. But soundwise in the end it was Nord or AN1x.
I'll never understand why our mean blue machine did drop so much
faster in price then others. Maybe it was because of the housing taken
from the cs1x?
In our link section "Related sites" "Soundforum:hear, see, do and
marvel" is broken. Via Internet archive wayback machine
(http://web.archive.org/web/) it's still available. But that takes
its time...

Hi Tom !

Maybe it's because of the lack of knobs ! First "analog" means "lot of
knobs to tweak" and the AN1X is less "user friendly" than other
comparable gear . Another reason : Yamaha is , for most musicians ,
associated with FM synths like the DX 7 ...11 series . I thougt of
buying an Oberheim OB12 , but i've been told by many that it was not
very reliable and a mint second hand AN1X was 4 times cheaper ! The
swiss guy at deepsonic send me a mail with his "AN1X" files : i let the
Oberheim at the store .
For the administrator - webmaster etc... : i can make a french
translation of the website , there are keyboardists and AN1X owners even
in France . If it's useful please feel free to contact me .

Wo, I´ll have to ask deepsonic for that files, too.
Your right, Yamaha is FM for most users regardless of cs 80 and others.
Since you mentioned Oberheim: my first visit at a professional music store- a friend of mine was looking for a guitar combo- I grabbed a chord at an Oberheim OB-8. Not knowing that it was connected to a pair of speakers the sound almost threw me on my behind. Compared to this the "Oberheim" OB12 is like a wet fart.
For the knobs: I think Yamaha did the possible to achieve easiest use with least possible number of knobs. And I think they did a good job. I got a SY 77, I had a DX7II before, well a Juno60 was my first synth. I'm the proud owner of two FB01- two because of their size. It takes some time to prepare, but there's an easy workaround for missing knobs.
Jeff, it's a pleasure to deal with intelligent people.
Thanks
Tom
