Yeah,

Kenton have abandoned making the plugstation some time ago now, perhaps 18
months - 2 years ago.

Nice bit of kit, came to the market a little too late, mine is populated
with AN and DX boards, and links to my SW1000XG which in turn links to one
of 2 DSP Factory cards also in my music PC. I route SW1000XG sounds to
channels 3-8 of the 8 channels it can send directly digitally into the DSP
Factory mixer, leaving channels 1 and 2 for the plugstation boards. Works a
treat and sound quality is excellent.

If you find one, don't forget to check the firmware version. Kenton used to
keep the latest firmware on their website www.kenton.co.uk - it was still
there when I went to it a couple of weeks ago (looking at Yamaha PF15 MIDI
Retrofit boards). But just tried to access the site and they now direct you
to a redesigned site at www.kentonuk.com - hopefully the plugstation
firmware is still on there, as I didn't have time look properly.

Also there were several variants of the plugstation - basically a box that
you could choose to populate with one or more of 3 boards to increase
functionality. So make sure you check which boards are included before you
buy.

One board you have to have to get the basic functionality.

A second board gives you the connection to the SW1000XG, remember that you
can use the plugstation standalone, without this board, triggering the
boards via midi, if you don't have an sw1000xg.

A third board gives you 8 analog outputs and the ability to route sw1000xg
and/or PLG board outputs to those analog outputs. The D/A convertors are
pretty good spec too.

I haven't got the manual in front of me, but that's probably still available
on the Kenton website too. I think they were called X Y and Z boards.

The key thing is to check which boards are installed.

Best of luck,

Nigel

The AN and DX board are what I'd like to put in a Plugstation too.
I'd use it as a standalone module. Kenton emailed me that they aren't
aware of any Plugstations that are still available with retailers
anywhere. I saw the Roguemusic site and although I'm not sure if they
really do have any Plugstations still in stock, I'll probably check
though.

not good...
I wonder if they can be made easy or requires a special EPROM etc.

There's more to a plugstation than a cartoon-handful of PLG sockets and
wire...but much of what's in there is geared toward interfacing with the
SW1000XG cards (the Z card)

I got mine just before he stopped making them. I'm glad, too. The only card
that makes no sense in a plugstation is the VH card.

I run mine through an Audigy2ZX and can SEE the improvement in waveform
'quality' when recording in 24-bit. I guess the AN card has a real DAC on
it?

A fairly good alternative to the plugstation is the Yamaha MU128 tone
generator. Those aren't just a terrific XG synthesizer - they're also an
excellent PLG-card organizer... If you only want one or two PLGs, grab an
old MU-100R. You can get an MU128 on ebay for about what a plugstation used
to cost.

G'luck,
-Patrick
