I'm located in Dallas, TX here in the US. No, I don't
wear a cowboy hat or rope cattle. I moved here after
graduating from college. Until then, I grew up in
Louisiana.

Wazaaaap?!?!

I'm from Los Angeles, CA, the 2nd largest city in the U.S. (I'm keeping the
continuity going here...) home of the WORLD CHAMPION LOS ANGELES LAKERS, the
2000 Democratic National Convention and less than an hour's drive from Yamaha
USA's headquarters in Buena Park, CA.

I'm 28, a born-and-raised Angeleno (no, I'm not a surfer, duuuuude), graduated
from USC in '95 with a degree in Journalism and after a couple years doing web
design here and there, I work in the Information Technology department at E!
Entertainment Television.

Been playing music for the past 16 or so years. I bought my AN1x in '98 because
I thought it would make a nice touch to the acid jazz/funk band I was playing in
at the time, and that I had nothing but fun playing it and twisting its knobs
whenever I went to Guitar Center after work.

Now I have an drum n bass/electronica act called "e:trinity," it's a mixture of
electronic dance music and traditional Asian music. We got a website at
www.e-trinity.org and www.mp3.com/etrinity ...

I live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in the neighbourhood of
Buitenveldert (kinda posh, though not way as posh as the inner
city).

I work at a company called MagicMinds, as a software engineer.
Which means that I got contracted out for a ridiculous fee and
they I program interactive websites, or programs in general, or
install servers.

It's a *very* nice company to work for. There is a rather strict
policy about new employees: not as much about capabilities as
it is about character.

Nice, my MIDI teacher was from the netherlands, his father has a library of
old analogue synths because he apparently used to work for some company
making them or making patches for them or something....His father is
apparently a HUGE classical musician there, as well as his sister and aunt,
he's classically trained and went to some really really good school there (or
elsewhere in europe) and he teaches at my school while trying to get his
doctorate in music or something....He's doing some research at the University
of Chicago with this global group that is trying to make an ASCII standard
for music data so the file size is small without losing quality or some crap,
but he knows about some increadibly innovative software and gear that just
isnt on the market....he's a badass in my opinion, he uses these programs
(MAX) to literally program all these crazy controllers and triggers to create
a realtime musical environment for plays and performance artists and stuff
like that....pretty increadible.....

World champion of what? Seeing that it is American, it's probably baseball,
basketball or that spin-off from rugby that for some bizarre reason gets
called 'football'.

I would think that the title 'world champion' implies that the final is
witnessed by about half of the world's populations, and sport in question
has a serious competition most countries of the world. For the three
mentioned above, that is not the case.

The only sport that has this merit is football. And I mean *real* football,
that you play with your feet (instead of running around with an oval ball
tucked under your arm). It even has almost the same name in most languages:
football, voetbal, Fu\ufffdbal, futbol...

France is the world champion. It should have been the Netherlands, of
course. :)

Er, there are about 50 countries and 500 million people in Europe... I would
wager a guess that there are quite a few "really really good" schools. :)

Part of me wants to laugh with you, the other part wants to laugh at you.
You're correct in pointing out that the American-centric view of sports in the
context of the world in general is very narrow, though I also find a
considerable amount of arrogance in your own Euro-centric view of sports.

So, by your own definition, the only defining criteria in world sports
competition is the Olympics, which is generally accurate for individual
acheivements, but as far as team sports is debatable.

The Lakers are a basketball team, in case you didn't know.

Would you prefer I resort to the politically-correct version instead?

...home of the 2000 NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION FINALS CHAMPION LOS ANGELES LAKERS..."

Whatever. Back to analog synths. Why can't we all just get along and bash the
Roland JP8000 together? Fight the real enemy...

Well, yes. The same thing happened at Euro 2000, where the Netherlands where
(quite justly, I might add) beaten by the Italians, who got in turn beaten
by (again) the French.

Er, football is indeed the biggest sport in Europe (with 500 million
possible spectators), but also in South-America, Africa, and most parts of
Asia. So it's not really "Euro-centric", I would think.

> So, by your own definition, the only defining criteria in world sports

As a matter of fact, the USA organised the World Cup football a few years
ago. Very professional coverage, which has influenced influenced the
coverage over here. And the USA made quite a remarkable performance, making
it to the quarter finals (I think). They could be great, if it weren't for
the fact that the sport is considered something for girls and wussies.

One of the fun things I remember was that the ball ended up in the audience,
and one American caught it and was very happy with it. But contrary to
baseball, he had to give it back: a Questra is *slightly* more expensive. :)

This reminds me of the Amiga advocates and Atari zealots fighting each
other. Now both the Amiga and Atari are dead and buried... (OK, so the Amiga
doesn't know it yet.)

I think the real enemy is pre-programmed loops and grooves... not using the
AN1x as the beautiful and individual instrument that it is.

That´s just american...hippocrit and thinking they are the cream of
the world with their "Wonderland"...The only country i know that
claims to have the "World Series"...but never seen outside the
USA...LOL
But "Football" is actually getting more popular in Germany, but still
