OK
Deep breath- relax. We're here to help.

You want to : " make all 16 tracks play at the same time"
I assume that means you want to assign 16 different An1x sounds to 16
different midi channels - is that what you mean ?

If so - let us know (here on the list) and we'll assist you.
(but realize you can only play 10 notes at one time on the AN1x).

whoah, hold on there big boy....

The AN1x is only "bitimbral" which means that it can only play 2 tracks from
a sequencer simultaneously. It wasn't built to be a replacement for an
orchestra - it's an analog modeler. If you're trying to play standard MIDI
files then you'll need what's known as a "ROMpler", that is - a digital
synth built to accept General MIDI that's got all those boring old sounds in
it. In lieu of this, just play the files on your sound card from your PC.

Sounds like they were looking for a *CS1x* and mistakenly got an AN1x instead.

Unfortunately, impossible. Bitimbral - 2 channels in, 2 scenes for sounds.

That's called "polyphony" and it means what you said - how many simultaneous
notes.
"Timbrality" is usually used to tell how many different sounds can be played
at once.

Ah yes- but you can send program changes.

Yep.....I still have issues of "Polyphony" Magazine (predecessor to
"Electronic Musician")... Even though many issues of that Mag were about
mono synths.

Bi-Timbral is Multi Timbral I guess.
My old Bit One was called Bi-Timbral Cause you could split the Keyboard (but
you couldn't assign 2 midi channels to it).

I have never seen a Synthesizer spec sheet that said "Timbrality: 16"- are
the manufacturers starting to do that now?

I've always seen it listed as "parts multi-timbral" don't know if this is a
new practice or not *shrugs*

Hm...Fix your computer and get a fresh copy of Adobe-reader and
download the manual:

http://www.egroups.com/files/AN1x-list/Documentation/an1xe1.pdf

You can only play 2 Tracks (i guess you mean the MIDI-channel) at
once (with two different patches) (of course you can play 16 tracks
on two MIDI-channel...but that will sound
kinda ...hm...interesting...:::rushes to his computer to experiment
with old GM-files....::: ;O)

Oh, there“s a lot to explain. I highly recommend you to get your
comp. fixed, get Adobe-reader, download the manual and read it.

Hope it helps,

Tom

Oh, I take issue at this. :)

I have a rompler that doesn't do General MIDI and that isn't boring. :)

Speaking of which, a Korg Triton is General MIDI capable. I've seen... stuff
more boring than that. :)

...that take considerable time to execute. Basically, the AN1x is a
unitimbral synth that can do bi-timbral at considerable expense.

Er... the phrase "16 part multitimbral" doesn't ring any bell? Modest
top-end modules (Proteus 2000, XV5080) and samplers today are 32 part
multitimbral.

Ah, but I was being sarcastic! Back in the old days when all we had were
subtractive synthesizers we longed for samples, samplers, ROMplers and the
like. When they came in, there was a lot of talk about analog synthesis
being obsolete. The talkers were wrong, of course. Therefore: the AN1x
lives. But, by itself it can't do a lot of other stuff.

I guess my point is that the AN1x was built to be a certain type of sound
generation machine (musical instrument), and the person who wanted to play
MIDI songs on it was like trying to make a violin sound like a piano. A
violin is built for a certain set of sounds, and calling it bad or
inefficient because it can't sound like a piano is like cursing your foot
because you can't see with your toes.
