harmonics

It's easy to make unlistenable catterwaul types sounds on the AN1X but
there's not much use for them. I had the great idea to run a high pass
filter through a particularly discordant patch to cut off all the lower
frequencies and then layer the patch with a normal lead sound. I
figured I would get nice shifting odd harmonies over a cool lead sound.
What I got was a nice lead sound ruined by this horrible high frequency
garbage. Oh well. I'll keep working on it.

Not much use?
Blasphemy!

One music channel featured a 1/2 hour of Nine Inch Nails today (I'm feeling bad
& am just watching TV all day). Some of that caterwauling stuff you're
referring to often becomes the 2 and 4 backbeat pulses in Reznor's stuff. Of
course, there is that "appropriateness" thing... can't rightly say I'd find much
purpose for it in a blues song or romantic ballad.

If only the AN would let you use two different filters in series then
your problem with that patch might be solved. (That would be a huge
departure from the AN's intended Prophet 5 architecture though.)

(...and I'm guessing the bandpass filter isn't wide enough for the
sound you're trying to get?)
