most musicians that I have run into lately, have a notebook they use....
I would tend to call that "old school thought", borrowing that clever phrase for those who
think having a computer at a gig is bad news....

pointing out that 99% of your synths in use are now computers.... ;-)

I've heard good things about the Yamaha QY series of hardware
  sequencers.

Even though there are certainly electronic musicians that use soft
sequencers/softsynths live, the conventional wisdom is that relying
on a PC for a live performance is leaving the door wide open for
  technical problems/glitches.

True, but those 99% of synths aren't running MS Windows for an OS.

I must be one of the few... I don't have these problems with MS. Then again, it might be that I been a authorized MS dude for nearly 20 years too and I well familiar with MS products...

I would much rather me more familiar with music however...

You will find Linux in full use in some of the newer synths... good example Korg's OASYS. PS2 is another (yea I use my PS2 as a synth too... ;-) ), x-box however may prove painful to you, it's windows ce...

so keep your eye open ...

Hi,
I've got a Korg Oasys, and, as far as I know, there isn't a linux
driver that it works with. It will run on Windows up to ME, but not
2000 or XP, and on earlier Macs. The Korg 1212 audio card is
supported by Linux, though.

The Oasys is a great card, if you don't need XP.

I'm finding that the AN200's box is a really good midi knob box for
soft synths, or my Creamware card's synths. It's already laid out
like an analog synth for you.

Another thing I like is to load up a sample player with 4 channels of
different percussion sounds, then drive it from the AN200's midi out.

I'm also finding that I would have been fine without a lot of my
equipment. There's plenty you can do with one synth and a lower
level recording package, like maybe Cakewalk home studio, if you want
to make recordings.

OT: Oasys Keyboard !

2005-02-18 by zog2zog2003

Whoa!
 How'd I miss that?

Somewhere on the Korg Oasys PCI site, there's the story and picture
of the original Oasys keyboard that was abandoned before production.
It's great to see them come back to it.
