You know...for a person that is primarily a guitarist, that has to be one
of the ugliest abbherations I've ever seen. :-)
It is like som bizzarro world guitar...but I'm content with the An1x (since
I'm not much of a keyboardist) and all. I can see for synthheads that it could
have it's appeal. Just I always have loved the lines of guitars, and the strings :-)
And the frets, and the simplicity.
But that's just a guitarist talking !

Moog has put out an "economy" synth that only costs 3x what I paid for my AN1X. It looks cool though.Only 4 knobs. Only 2 osc. Jimmy

The price doesn't surprise me much. Don't they force a surcharge if you're caught pronouncing the company name the way it was for 30 years? If it rhymes with Google, you have to send them money as a penalty. Foo -- boutique pricing for boutique products spaceanimals wrote:

Hi ! OK the look is very attractive , the sound could be interesting (for those who like the "Moog sound" of course !) , but it is expensive for a MONO synth limited to bass lines or single note play . If you want a mono synth and not obviously branded "Moog" you can get second hand instruments much cheaper , something like the Novation Bass Station (despite its name it can do not only bass patterns) . And if you like the "old time look" a lot of real vintage japanese or european synths . @+ J.F. Ed Edwards a \ufffdcrit : >The price doesn't surprise me much. I enjoy the appearance of the Little Phatty: http://messe.harmony-central.com/Musikmesse06/Content/Moog/PR/Moog- Little-Phatty.html There's a demo video posted on SonicState: http://sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=2881 Sound pretty much like a Voyager from what you can make out in the Video. I agree, kind of pricey of a mono synth, but it looks like a lot of fun to play :-) If you want a > mono synth and not obviously branded "Moog" you can get second hand > instruments much cheaper , something like the Novation Bass Station > (despite its name it can do not only bass patterns) . Right, the Novation Bass Station sounds great - and can be had as a VSTi or AU for Win/Mac. Jon

Relax, Dan ! OK, it looks like a real vintage, but try it extensively, listen carefully, and maybe you'll find that the wooden case and the bunch of old school plastic knobs are not worth the money...soundwise. If you like this one there is a german laptop expander called "Pro 12" that mimicks the Prophet series too for less money... Cheers J.F. Dan a \ufffdcrit :

Hey Guys, I totally agree with J.F. Give any new synth. a really good going over. I bought a Poly Evolver Keyboard, and was so disappointed with the way it sounded. I just couldn't get the thing sounding as warm and analog as I wanted it to. Dare I say it, but it sounded kinda digital to me. So I got rid of it. Next time, I won't believe the hype. What I should do is just glue some more knobs on the AN1X and put on some walnut end pieces. Then I'll have the sounds I love with a cool boutique look. As an aside, how come you can't get keyboards in different colors like you can guitars? I want a keyboard with that old drum kit sparkle finish either gold or purple. Jimmy

Hello, u ppl have been unfair and u didn't read well the specs of the p08 .. this is not another VA it is a CEM chips based synth analog audio-path digitally controlled, something that only the Andromeda offer nowadays even if it doesn't have the 10 bit resolution parameter of the Andy but only 7 bit it is still a fantastic and rare things in today's world of DSP based synths. they are not knobs but encoders a la waldorf Q u grab one and instant value on the LCD ! of course u should never buy something before u try or hear it but still .. give it a chance ! Sure is nothing new or exotic or fancy it is just a classic poly analog of 2007 didn't we all pray for that since ages ? (or was i the only one ?) I know some of one of these idea's are for a qwerty keyboard but the same principle applies. Might be worth looking at custom bike or car shops as they provide interesting finishes and paint services. The tough part is getting the legend's re done afterwards http://lifehacker.com/software/diy/custom-paint-your-keyboard- 271614.php http://createdigitalmusic.com/2007/02/08/pimp-my-ableton-controller- custom-keyboards-custom-paint-jobs/ And finally http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UrCZwnolFk David Salter --- In AN1x-list@yahoogroups.com, "spaceanimals" <rainbowjimmy@...> wrote: > > What I should do is just glue some more knobs on the AN1X and put on > some walnut end pieces. Hello gentlemen ! be careful with possible unwanted reactions* between the plastic stuff of most of the keyboards housings and the car paint. If you want to do something like that use first a plastic primer (2 layers) before spraying the paint itself. You can find this primer in the same stores, mostly to paint car bumpers or spoilers, bike fairings .... As David says you'll have to find some nice trick for the lettering of the control panel... heat sensitive transfer paper ? etching ? As a last advice : test what you want to do, including lettering, on some similar piece of plastic stuff before painting anything on your keyboard and, last but not least : the dry paint (or primer) is not conductive, so avoid any paint drop or mist inside the electronics, specially pots, switches, pushbuttons, connectors....The PCBs are often varnished, but not the connectors nor the IC sockets.... Cheers J.F. * changes in the color, bubbles, poor adherence of paint....this is 99/100 times caused by the solvents mixed with the paint which are not very "plastic friendly". Thanks Wayne ! another thing about "vintage sounding": what we can mostly hear now of these famed ancestors are.... records, with the technical limits of yesterdays recorders and effects. You can find somewhere an old tape echo, a spring or plate reverb, an analog chorus or any old thing like that? Borrow it and try it with your modern V.A. synth.... I bet you'll get very close to the "analog nirvana" of your dreams ;-) For the sequencer the "must" is a step sequencer as in the AN1x or a standalone device like the Doepfer MAQ : the very "robotic" and basic playback is more "authentic" than any computer software !! Tube amps and preamps could be useful to give the final touch to your quest... In other words : cut off drastically the bandwith , add a little noise and some ripples to the "Hi Fi - extra flat" response curve of your amp.... The frequency response of a real spring reverb, for example, does not exceed a few kHz (not tenths !), is all you want except linear, at high level the springs add their own noise to the input signal .... Cheers! J.F. Wayne Koschinski a \ufffdcrit :

I one of the biggest proponents that you'll ever meet of vitual analog being a very good compromise over real analog even over at vintagesynth.com....I'm definitely not an analog snob but I do have an Evolver desktop module and like its sound; beyond that, Dave Smith has personally answered my emails and aesthetically the P8 really appeals to me - I applaud DSI for making the P8 and would like to support the effort! --- In AN1x-list@yahoogroups.com, Jeff <jf.serviere@...> wrote:
