Whoah, I gotta jump in here and say that the AN1x is one of the lightest
keyboards I've ever seen. You can pick it up with one hand. Specs page at
Yamaha UK say 7.5 kg (= 16.5 lbs.) It actually makes me nervous live, I use
one of those Ultimate stands that has the 2 arms that support it. When
playing hard at the extreme ends of the keyboard, it lifts off the stand!

*scratches head* maybe i just dont know what the hell im talking about, it's
not like i've picked up a shitload of synths in my time(admitting my
ignorance :-) ), i've just funked around with alot of them.....but it's damn
heavy compared to the Nord Lead 2 *shrugs*....also, maybe (but i seriously
doubt it) it's because i got one of the first AN1x's on the market, i got
mine late 97 and i got lucky when i got it cause Mars Music was recalling all
of their AN1x's (i think they said cause it wasnt selling very well), but i
saved this baybee from extinction.....

If you want heavy, try picking up an Ensoniq ASR-10. Or an Oberheim Matrix-12.
Or a Memorymoog. Or one of those huge-ass 1970s Buchla synths. Or a Yamaha GS-1.

Hey ash,

This is the lightest 61-key synth I've ever played and
I've owned a large variety of synths throughout 14
years. I thought my XP-50 was light at 20 lbs. until I
picked this up. It's scary how light it is and how it
would probably crack into pieces if it ever bumped
into anything with any force. Compare it to the other
keyboard synths currently available at a local store
and you'll notice the difference.

Really? You have some songs online, to listen to? For what are you
using the AN1x mainly? Pads? Basses? Leads? FX?

Tell us a little how you used it, please.

Regards, Tom

I have an AN1x (slightly tilted) and an EX5 (flat) on a Quik-Lok rack. If I
sit in an office chair (with little wheels) and push the AN1x, the AN1x
moves. If I push the EX5, I move. And I weigh close to100 kilos (yes, I
should lose some 15 kilos). You know what 'heavy' is when you've tried to
move an EX5 in its box.

But I think size is more of a problem than weight. Yamahas tend to come in
very large boxes (my EX5 box could easily contain a child or a small adult)
and space is what counts. Weight as well, but to a less degree.

No, try lifting a Yamaha GX-1. :)

(The whole set, including seat and speakers, weighs close to 700 kilos.)

The CS1x, which shares the same case as the AN1x is much lighter than the AN1x.
I just moved and have been setting up my studio and noticed how much heavier
the AN1x is.... So, I guess it's all relative.

That's because the AN1x is much fatter than the CS1x. :)
