I do not agree with you on your thoughts on the ION at all. I find it rather versatile. I use it with my MS2k just fine.

the ion is really best for psychedelic rock or 60's type music. for
industrial or techno, it's really not too cool. i'm actually really bummed
that i bought into the marketing hype on that one. all the relevant mags
gave it excellent reviews, and while it can do lots of cool stuff (mod
matrix in particular is cool), it is limited in the number of "user
programs", which is WAY lame, and the effects are so limited, it's actually
kind of insulting. if i thought alesis was going to actually keep it around
and continue to develop it for a while, it would be worth hanging on to. but
it seems like they brought it to market solely so that they would have
something to show at NAMM, and meanwhile the product itself is not really
all that great.

so if anyone has a friend who is looking for excellent recreations of 1960's
type sounds (mellotron, moogs, arp, wurlitzer, etc), then please have them
email me. i'm letting this thing go for _way_ less than i paid for it, since
it is essentially irrelevant to the kind of music that i make.

btw, just to stay on topic, i have an AN200 that i think is amazing, i just
wish they would come out with an editor that is OSX capable, since i'm
buying the new G5 when it comes out next month. i guess i will have to keep
one of the G4's around for a while just so i can use the editor software.
while i have SoundDiver, it's really not that great, and it's definitely
less intuitive than the AN200 software, so i don't really use it that much.

yep. time for bed.

i have to agree with dale. ive had my ION for 2 months and i'm
creating sounds that i _never_ thought i could make. the factory
sounds make it seem like the perfect keyboard for a Rush or Cars
cover band, but if you take the time to program the hell out of it,
you can produce some INSANE sounds. im actually getting a lot more
out of it than my AN1x.

I am a synth whore... I think each and every synth has it's unique sound, that is if you coach it out. I am still thinking about finding the An1x board for the s-80. I gave it a try to get all my ducks lined up to get a An1x a few months ago but it just did not pan out this time around.

Still, I think the ION can do and work well in the area commented on. It is a animal to be tamed, all those controls and the Alesis way. It is a good synth in it's own.

My next synth is going to be a Karma. Just a few weeks away as some funds are due to arrive. ION is in the shop, drove it there myself to get repairer yesterday. Mine was great for about three months then the encoder problem. I expect it back this week. I would not part with it. I used it with it's bad drive knob till I had the tracks I wanted done laid down. Now, I have some time to get it repaired with the new parts. Yes, I do have my wish list with it but I also realize that I want the world from every piece of equipment I buy which does not line up with real world. I can dream.

I was looking at one of the new Rolands today and the Triton. I am a very sad man that I think more of my ION than those two in most people's eyes. I just was not hearing with my ears what I do with the ION. I also don't hear from the ION what I hear with my MS2000. When I use the both together, I hear good things. There is something missing from the Rolands and the Tritons the ION has. I just can't put my finger on it. It just seems deeper, more real... well, I did not have a ION to compare with there. Just my thoughts. Maybe someday I will take on in to the local GC and do a apple to apple compare with the same set of speakers etc.

Just my thoughts... I have no real hard data to back any of that up other my ears and what I remember...
