I had similar problems.. not all boards support bootable SCSI CD rom drives. Technically you should be able to boot from the win98 disk. I ended up buying a $50 IDE CDROM for booting from... I would suggest the same.. or you'll have to manually create a bootable floppy thats loads the ASPI drivers for your SCSI card and the CDROM driver.. then setup from the scsi drive..
Cheers

Subject: [AN1x-list] Need help

Does anyone have a PC with only SCSI devices? (SCSI cdrom & SCSI
harddisk)
Are there any "generic" SCSI devicedrivers that i could put on a
diskette so that i could
load/install an operating system like windows95 to the harddrive ?

I've tried all possible combinations with ID's and stuff, but i CAN'T
seem to be able to
install the operating system (that is on a cd) from the SCSI cdrom
drive.
I have tried the windows98 startup diskette, but it doesn't want to
initiate the cdrom drive
to be able to read anything.

I've been at it for about 2-3 weeks now, and still am not able to do
it.

Help please ...

I had the same problem and I wasn't able to solve it without an ide cd rom
drive.
The bios can't recognize the scsi devices because the driver for the scsi
controller isn't installed.
but to install the driver you have to install windows first.
What I did was to borrow an ide cd rom and then everything was easy.

Maybe there is another way I'm also curious.

Good luck

Rolf

Aargh.. Why??? (sorry) Why can't they make a generic SCSI cdrom thing
when they can make them for ATAPI also ?? (I have a generic ATAPI
"driver" diskette) Are these out there??? (the SCSI ones?)

I'm trying WinNT bootupdisk now, so far without success... although
the website says this:
"Windows NT 4.0 Server(3 setup Disks)
NTSER401.EXE
NTSER402.EXE
NTSER403.EXE
All Atapi Compliant and Supported SCSI controllers."

This is the complete OPPOSITE problem Mac users (such as myself) have
with IDE CD-ROMs/CDRWs/DVDs - SCSI drives work no problem but replacing
a factory supplied IDE drive with an after market drive can be a real
pain. Sorry I can't be of more help...

I think every list will have to die without debates like this

Wasn't trying to start a debate - just pointing out the idiocy inherent
in some BIOS implementations is not
limited to platform. :-)
